Born on the first year of the greatest century to ever exist, its only makes sense that a name like mine was a part of the equation.
But even a ni**a like me got no blueprint. With mortals like 2Pac, Hugh Hef’, and the Great Gatsby breathing, the youth in me figured out the game.
After all, real recognises real. But what did ‘real’ mean to a ten-year-old me?
That youth saw much more of the world at his age than he should’ve. Growing up in a capital famous for its crack, it wasn’t a shock that many things amused him, even if they were considered ‘out of place.’ But who cared? He didn’t, and that’s all that mattered to him.
“Take life easy. Let everyone see the world through your eyes.”
Maman used to say this whenever my hyperactive self left the front door of my hometown crib.
She didn’t want me to be the next prominent Doctor or lawyer, nor did she want me to set a social example created by others who turn out to be hypocrites in their everyday lives. She just wanted me to be myself.
That is one of the many reasons why I love her. Because of her, I walked the way I walked and talked the way I talked. I always understood that people might never understand me.
Like every other story, I went through something that f*cked a ni**a up.I met a girl.Although it was just puppy love, I felt I was on top of the world. But, of course, she didn’t know about it.
